Description: Situated on the top (4th and 5th) floors of a 400 year old building with a view over the rooftops to the dome of the Pantheon, you will immediately succumb to the charm of this tastefully decorated apartment with its oak beams, ancient stone wall and a spiral staircase leading to a spacious bedroom with an adjoining bathroom. For maximum comfort and insulation from noise, all windows are double glazed and there are high quality radiators for winter as well as air-conditioning in the bedroom for summer. Note: your luggage will be carried up to the apartment for you by your host.
The decoration is a subtle blend of contemporary furniture, oriental antiques and modern art and there are wooden floors throught. In the lounge room there is a leather settee that converts into a double bed (W140 cm), two leather armchairs, a coffee table, a bookshelf and an antique Chinese cabinet. A round glass topped table seats four people.
The compact modern kitchen is fully equipped with an oven/microwave, two induction hotplates, a dishwasher and a refrigerator with integrated freezer… perfect for making meals from the fresh produce bought at the famous rue Mouffetard street market.
The upstairs bedroom is brightly lit by a large skylight that looks out over the roofs of Paris and a smaller window with a view of the Eiffel tower. There is a queen size bed (W160 cm), an antique Chinese desk and armchair and cable TV with a DVD player. There is also a telephone/fax and high speed Internet access. Spacious wardrobes are at your disposition for storing clothes and luggage.
The modern bathroom, also with a skylight, has a bath with shower, contemporary washbasin and mirror, toilet, cupboards and a hairdryer. There is a separate laundry/closet on the landing with a washing/drying machine, an iron and ironing board where you can also store your suitcases during your stay. All linen and towels are provided.
Neighbourhood: Situated in the heart of the Latin Quarter (in medieval times Latin was spoken by the many students who lived here – thus the name), rue Mouffetard is one of the most picturesque streets in Paris. Famous for its street market, it also abounds with cafés and restaurants. You can follow in the footsteps of the philosophers (Descartes) and writers (Hemingway) who lived in this lively area which is just a stone’s throw from the Sorbonne University. Nearby places of interest include the Pantheon (the mausoleum where Victor Hugo, Zola and Jaurès lie to rest), the Arènes de Lutèce (the site of the antique Roman arena), the Cluny museum (Roman baths and medieval history) and the Institute du Monde Arabe (Muslim art). Otherwise, enjoy the simple pleasure of strolling down the medieval streets that lead to the Seine and Notre Dame or sit on the terrace of a café on the place de la Contrescarpe where musicians come to play + watch the world go by.
